The photo above shows a bottom to top view of apricot colored Antelope Canyon, located in the high desert of northern Arizona, and illustrates the power of erosion. Here, over several thousand years, sand on the desert floor has been eroded, primarily by flash floods, leaving only the hardest sandstone. Sunlight, streaming down from above, is scattered by myriad dust particles in the air. From the top to the bottom of the frame, the height is approximately 10 m (33 ft). Photo taken in early May 2006, near noon.
