Crossing Guard Waves

For two years, Haley has waved to the crossing guard at the corner of Newfield and Interlaken. She has even gone as far as warming up her hand blocks before so that she could give him a "very hardy wave." No luck. He never waved back.

Today, while driving down to school to pick her up, he not only waved but gave me a big smile too.

Haley could not stand the fact that he recognized me. As a result, she was determined to get a wave out of him. As we approached, we saw that he was on the opposite side of the street (the side closer to me). I slowed and Haley reached across me and waved. No response. I waved and was given a big smile and a hardy wave.
