Guess The Billionaire
Can you pick out the billionaire in this picture? If you said both people you are right and win yourself a lot of pride. Hey I didn't get rich giving away money.
Yesterday, Marc Cuban came to the Goizueta Business School to speak. He spoke for about 20 minutes about following your dreams and how he succeeded in business. The most interesting thing he said was - in basketball (Cuban owns the Dallas Mavericks) you have to hit at least 1/3 of your shots to be a good player. In business you only have to be right once out of 138 times to be successful. Cuban then opened for question and answer. I asked, Where he thought the future of technology is? He responded he didn't think there is anything truly ground breaking on the horizon, but wireless could be big. He also mentioned nanotechnology and biotech, but said he does not invest in. He then hung around for about one hour afterwards at Kegs in the Courtyard where I got to speak with him personally. He is a very intersting guy who is very down to earth. I got to take this photo with him, which Brian tried to take with my camera phone. Brian took 3 minutes to take it and Cuban said "I have been holding you so long we should get married" I responded "This is Georgia." My friends were upset that I did not marry him for the money, but alas he is not Jewish.
Marc Cuban was today named the 133 richest person in the world. He is a Dot-com impresario turned basketball bad boy now creating a small entertainment empire. Pittsburgh native bartended in Dallas before creating systems-integration firm MicroSolutions; sold in 1990 for $6 million. Started Broadcast.com with Indiana University pal Todd Wagner (see) 1995. Sold to Yahoo 5 years later for $5.7 billion in stock, sold out before Internet bust. Used windfall to buy pro basketball's Dallas Mavericks. Team lost this year's NBA finals to Micky Arison's (see) Miami Heat. With Wagner owns stakes in HDNet, Magnolia Pictures, 2929 Entertainment. Duo sold syndicator Rysher Entertainment (Hogan's Heroes, Nash Bridges) to Qualia Capital in February.
