A Love Story

A devoted couple who were together almost 66 years died within five hours of each other at the same hospital.

Now they will be laid to rest together on the day which would have been their wedding anniversary.



Joan Standen, 84, was rushed to hospital with a chest infection and soon fell into a coma with pneumonia.

Just four days later husband Reg, 87, was taken to hospital with a similar condition. Joan died later that afternoon and Reg died five hours later — even though his family had not told him about his wife because they thought him too weak.

The couple’s daughter Melody Robbins is convinced they could not survive without each other.

She believes Reg somehow knew he had lost Joan and gave up.
