Not Your Mother. Thank Goodness

Aren't you glad this isn't your mother.

Adriana Iliescu, who became the world's oldest mother in 2005, has been photographed out shopping with her three-year-old daughter at the age of 70.

Clasping Eliza's hand, Miss Iliescu could easily pass for the little girl's grandmother as the pair walk down the street in Romania.

But three years ago, at the age of 66 and 230 days, she gave birth for the first time after being given IVF treatment from a doctor friend and receiving a sperm donor.

Mother and daughter live together in a high rise flat in Bucharest, surviving on Miss Iliescu's £250 a month pension and her income from her part time work as an academic at the city's university, although she is officially retired.

There are more photos here.
