A New Type of Hybrid Vehicle

The DNC will be using waste beer to fuel cars at the convention this year.

The vehicles' ethanol-gasoline blend will be made from the product, donated by Denver-based Molson Coors from its brewery in Golden, Colo.

It's not a new technology for the brewer, which says it's been making fuel from waste beer since 1996. The fuel will be used to power 400 General Motors flex fuel vehicles that will transport delegates, media, staff, officials - even politicians - around Denver.

What's waste beer? It's the beer unfit for consumption, or spilled during production. The brewer says the waste is distilled into 200 proof fuel-grade ethanol, which then is mixed with 15 percent ethanol and sold as E85.
