To the editor:
In his Nov. 4 article, Jeff Morganteen reported that the Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County seeks to distribute 3,000 turkeys to Fairfield County's needy.
In response to that article, I would like to inform all about an easy, painless and free method to help the Food Bank meet its goal for Thanksgiving. Virtually every supermarket in the Stamford area offers "free" turkeys to its customers who purchase a designated dollar amount of groceries in the weeks leading to Thanksgiving. My family will be spending Thanksgiving with relatives, and I will not need nor want my "free" turkey.
Recently, I discovered that I could request that my local supermarket donate my turkey directly to the Food Bank without my involvement. All I had to do was make the request at the supermarket's courtesy desk and scan my price card to prove that I qualified for the "free" turkey. The process took less than a minute - no pain, no sweat.
I urge all who do not plan to use their "free" turkey to donate it directly to the Food Bank and help the charity meet its worthwhile goal. Just think of how many families in need would benefit from customers taking a minute and asking to donate their turkeys directly to the local food bank.
